Free movie screening slated

The Bexley Education Foundation's Bexley Community Book Club will host a screening of The Sweet Hereafter at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, at the Drexel Theatre, 2254 E. Main St.

The 1997 film was adapted from the critically acclaimed novel of the same name by Russell Banks, the BCBC's 2014 Selected Author. The film stays close to the story of Banks' novel, which explores how a small community in upstate New York (moved to British Columbia in the movie) is altered in the aftermath of a tragic school bus accident.

BCBC is partnering with Giant Eagle to present this event to the public free of charge.

The screening will be followed by a discussion with panelists John DeSando, a radio and TV film critic and commentator; Ann C. Hall, a professor of English at Ohio Dominican University who writes about film, drama and popular culture; and Jonathan Sherman, a filmmaker who teaches at Kenyon College.
