The city of Bexley will kick off the 2014 Main Event summer movie series on Friday, May 16.
Activities in conjunction with the first feature of the year, The Muppets, will start at 6:30 p.m. The free monthly event includes a film shown on a large outdoor screen and recreational activities on Capital University's East Main Street lawn.
"I'm really excited about this year's Main Event. I think it's going to be bigger than last year," Mayor Ben Kessler said. "The energy is even higher, we have more musical acts and more food trucks and local food vendors and our activity programming and movie lineup is absolutely fantastic."
Friday's event will feature food trucks, local vendors and live music by the Bexley Jam Band beginning at 6:30 p.m.
At 7 p.m., there will be yard games from Bexley Recreation & Parks, puppet crafts from Piccadilly, a story time from the Bexley Public Library and music from The Wiles. Local mascots will join the crowd for games. The screening of The Muppets will begin at sunset.
The Main Event started last year and is funded this year by an $18,925 grant from the Bexley Community Foundation. The grant covered the purchase of movie screening equipment, Kessler said.
"Now that we have our own equipment, we're able to have more flexibility in the way that we roll out the Main Event," he said.
The rest of the summer's Main Event movie lineup includes: Wall-E, June 19; ET, July 18; and The Wizard of Oz, Aug. 15.
