Bexley House and Garden Tour

Nine sites to inspire, impress guests

The Seventh Annual Bexley House and Garden Tour will feature homes in a variety of architectural styles this weekend.

The official tour, presented each year by the Bexley Women's Club, takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 8.

A Preview Tour and Party will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 7. The event will feature an extended tour with areas not available on Sunday. It also includes a party from 6:30 to 9 p.m. under a large tent at the Columbus School for Girls, 56 S. Columbia Ave.

"This year, there are nine wonderful sites on our tour -- eight homes and one garden," said Diane Peterson, president of the Bexley Women's Club. "The selection committee looks at those sites in the fall and determines the homes that would fit the scope of the tour."

The tour has grown in popularity each year, and word of mouth helps the selection committee choose homes and gardens to feature, Peterson said.

"People in the community know about our tour and feel so good about it that they contact us to potentially put their home in the tour," she said. "We also do our own looking around and approach people who maybe just did a renovation, or a wonderful garden jumps out at us."

This year's tour features homes that have been totally renovated, dating from the 1920s to 2005. The homes range from Spanish colonial to English Tudor to a condominium.

Profits from the tour support the Bexley Women's Club's scholarship fund and community service projects.

"Since 1937, the club has awarded $500,000 in scholarships to more than 800 deserving students," Peterson said.

Tour tickets are $20 in advance, available online at or at Graeter's Ice Cream, 2282 E. Main St., Bexley Pizza Plus, 2651 E. Main St., or Bexley Coffee Shop, 492 N. Cassady Ave. They are $25 on the day of the tour, available at the Columbus School for Girls.

Tickets for the Preview Tour and Party are $50. Online purchase ends at noon June 7. Guests must check in at CSG to receive wristbands that provide access to the homes and the party.

The tour is held rain or shine.
