Bexley's Robinette commits to play football at Air Force
Bexley High School senior Jalen Robinette accepted an appointment Feb. 1 to play football for the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.
A quarterback and defensive back, Robinette rarely left the field for Bexley last season. He rushed for 1,114 yards and 16 touchdowns on 165 carries and completed 78 of 138 passes for 1,027 yards and 10 touchdowns and was named first-team all-MSL-Ohio Division and second-team all-district as in Division III.
For his prep career, Robinette, who also saw time as a wide receiver, completed 103 of 213 passes for 1,430 yards and 14 touchdowns, rushed for 1,616 yards and 19 touchdowns on 253 carries and caught 31 passes for 471 passes and two touchdowns.
He set the Lions' single-game records for receptions (14) and receiving yardage (210) in a 35-22 loss to Granville on Sept. 24, 2010.
For his prep career on defense, Robinette had 110 tackles, including four for a loss, intercepted three passes (106 yards and a touchdown) and forced one fumble. On special teams, he punted 72 times for a 37.1 average and had nine returns for 118 yards and a touchdown.
Last season, Bexley finished 5-5 overall and tied Heath for sixth in the MSL-Ohio at 2-5. Air Force finished 7-6 after losing to Toledo 42-41 in the Military Bowl on Dec. 28 in Washington, D.C.
Robinette plans to major in engineering.
