J. Schroeder, a 2011 St. Charles Preparatory School graduate and Dublin resident, signed a letter of intent Feb. 1 to play football at Western Michigan University.

Schroeder, 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, is expected to be a punter for the Broncos, who are in the Mid-American Conference. He did not play last fall after having a 34.9-yard punting average as a senior with the Cardinals in 2010.

Also in 2010, Schroeder made 10 of 14 field goals as the place-kicker and had 28 receptions for 284 yards and one touchdown as a wide receiver.

Western Michigan is in Kalamazoo.
