St. Charles' Padgett signs with Fordham
St. Charles Preparatory School senior Joey Padgett has signed a letter of intent to play football at Fordham University, an NCAA Football Championship Subdivision school — formerly Division I-AA — in Bronx, N.Y.
Last fall, Padgett, a 6-foot-2, 230-pound defensive end and Powell resident, totaled 57 tackles, including four tackles for a loss and five sacks. He also had 16 quarterback pressures and two fumble recoveries.
Padgett signed Feb. 1 with the Rams, who are in the Patriot League and finished 1-10 last fall.
St. Charles finished 4-6 last fall but won its final two games, including a 23-13 victory over Watterson that marked its first win over the Eagles since 2000. The Cardinals defeated Marion Harding 56-17 in its season finale Oct. 28.
Five of the Cardinals' losses came against opponents that qualified for the playoffs. The other loss came against Canal Winchester, which finished ninth in Division II, Region 7, one spot shy of a playoff berth.
