Basketball squad still in search of victories

The Columbus School for Girls basketball team went 0-2 last week to drop to 2-13 overall and 0-5 in the CCL before playing DeSales in a league game Jan. 30.

The Unicorns fell to Hartley 79-28 in a league game Jan. 22 and lost to West Jefferson 59-27 on Jan. 26.

Point guard Myrial Holbrook scored 11 points against Hartley and center Haleigh Wilson scored seven points against West Jefferson.

On Jan. 19, the Unicorns defeated Crestline 47-35 to snap a six-game losing streak.

CSG will play host to Ready in a CCL rematch Friday, Feb. 1. The Silver Knights beat the Unicorns 77-18 on Dec. 5.

Swimmers finish second in CCL meet

The swimming and diving team finished second (360 points) in the CCL meet held Jan. 26 at home, behind Watterson (404) and ahead of Hartley (210.5), DeSales (158.5) and Ready (1).

Finishing first for the Unicorns were Erin Smith, Annie Moosavian, Kirby Boes and Rachel Politi in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1 minute, 46.23 seconds). Politi also came in first in the 100 butterfly (59.2) and 200 free (1:57.14) as did Erin Balasky in the 50 free (25.98).

It was an improvement for CSG, which placed third (268) in the CCL meet a year ago, behind Watterson (363) and Hartley (274) and ahead of DeSales (146) and Ready (42).
