Eli Goldberger is coming home to take over the Bexley High School athletics department.

Goldberger, who grew up in Bexley, had his appointment as athletics director approved by the school board at its May meeting. Principal Harley Williams had been serving as interim athletics director since the departure of Corrine Taylor.

Goldberger has taught both math and history and has 16 years of experience as an athletics director. He had been the athletics director and boys basketball coach at Dwight-Englewood School in Englewood, New Jersey, since 2008.

He graduated from high school at the Westminster School in Connecticut and then studied psychology at theCollege of Wooster and the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

Goldberger was chosen from a field of 64 applicants, 16 of whom were interviewed. A committee of administrators, faculty and parents reviewed the applicants.
