It is Thanksgiving week. This is a time for central Ohio high school athletes to take a moment out of their busy schedules to be with their families and reflect on how fortunate they are.

Here are the thoughts of ten outstanding area athletes on what they are thankful for at this point in their lives.

Valerie Micek, Columbus Academy girls tennis: "I appreciate my tennis team and the injury-free season I was able to have. I am thankful for the learning opportunities which my school has given me over the years, as well as the support my parents and college counselors have provided throughout the start of the college application process."

Josh Kusan, DeSales football: "I am thankful for my faith. I am thankful for having a family that supports me. I am thankful for the abilities and talents that I have been blessed with."

Taylor Steed, Logan Elm football: "This has been an incredible year and I am thankful for the support of my Christian faith, family and friends. Also, I am thankful for the great coaching and friends I have made on the football team. I have learned a lot outside of football this year and I know others have, too."

Erik Mai, St. Charles swimming: "I am thankful for my loving family and my supportive friends and teammates. They make sure that I stay on the right track and care if I succeed."

Ethan Freet, London boys track and field: "I am thankful for all the people in my life. Without their love and support I would not be able to be the person I want to be."

Hailey Fairchild, Dublin Coffman gymnastics: "I am thankful for the support from my family and the opportunities I have been given in life to do the sport that I love."

Emily Ransone, Watterson girls golf: "I am very thankful for the great support I have from my family and friends and all of the chances I have been given to succeed in life and in school."

Darcy Fishback, Upper Arlington girls swimming: "I am so thankful for all the great opportunities that I have been given. I have been able to meet great people and do many things that I love to do."

Rufus Walls, Hartley boys track and field: "I am thankful for the opportunity to go to a great school and to be put into a great position to become successful and help others who have fewer opportunities."

Becca Bornhorst, Coffman girls basketball: "I am very thankful for a healthy family and friends and for the opportunities that God has granted me in my life."

To all of you -- have a peaceful Thanksgiving day.

I'll see you at a game.
