As expected, the 2008 Adopt A Family Program proved to again be record-breaking in the number of clients who were assisted through this program.

We served 72 families, 300 individuals; which was more than a 10-percent increase over 2007's program.

There are always so many people to thank. Although Canal Winchester Human Services administers this program, we are always mindful that it would be an impossible task if it were not for the help of so many. Many contribute who are always unsung heroes because they participate anonymously through their churches, etc.

Thanks to each and every one of you who took the time to purchase an outfit or buy a pair of shoes, or send food items for a food basket. We are grateful to all the local churches who helped in their own special ways and to the students in our school district who wanted to help their peers have a great Christmas.

Many did special fundraisers or held special events to support this program -- the basketball team whose charity game provided $1,800 and the cheerleaders who gathered books; the middle school kids who provided used coats and raised money through a winter dance; and the high school student council who engaged the student body in paying money to participate in events such as Hat Day, etc.

The spirit of giving continued with local businesses such as Waste Management, SCP and the Insurance Circle, to name a few. Employees paid money for casual Fridays, individuals held holiday parties, encouraging guests to write checks to Human Services while some families chose to support Adopt A Family by adopting a child in need rather than giving to each other.

While I can give you the statistics on those who were helped through Adopt A Family, it is impossible to properly thank every person who supported this program in so many ways. To each of you, please know that no matter your contribution to this program, it was used to help someone struggling this holiday season.

Adopt A Family 2009 will begin again next fall. Until then, Canal Winchester Human Services will continue supporting this community with other projects such as emergency assistance, Tools For Schools, Senior Transportation, etc.

Support for all of our programs is constantly needed. Should you have questions, need assistance or want to offer a contribution, we welcome your inquiries at 834-3888.
