The 11 members and four alternates of the 2010 charter review commission held their first meeting on Feb. 18 to begin reviewing a document that village law director Gene Hollins likens to a constitution for Canal Winchester.

Members of the charter review commission include council appointees William Bennett, Victor Paini, William Ray, David Rinkes, Robert Toledo and Nancy Schirm Wright and mayoral appointees Calvin Caswell, Robert Clark, Brandon Kern, Roger White and Joe Wildenthaler.

Alternates are Jennifer Nack, Chris Chatfield, Beth Bayless and Heather Bolin.

White was elected chair and David Rinkes as vice chair. The charter review commission serves "a very important function," Hollins said.

"We do need concerned and involved citizens to take a look at this because it;s like your constitution," he said.

The commission should make any recommendations on charter changes to Canal Winchester Village Council by July, Hollins said. Council has until August to place changes on the November ballot.
