Two assistant principals hired
Students at two Canal Winchester elementary schools will be greeted by new assistant principals next school year.
The Canal Winchester Board of Education voted at a June 26 meeting to approve the appointment of Kelly Zywczyk as assistant principal at Winchester Trail Elementary School and Asia Armstrong as the assistant principal at Indian Trail Elementary School.
Zywczyk is no stranger to the Canal Winchester district. She served last year as assistant principal at Watkins Middle School in the Southwest Licking district. Before that, she was a fifth-grade teacher at Winchester Trail Elementary School during the 2010-2011 school year, but was a casualty of budget cuts in 2011.
In her new position, Zywczyk's annual salary will be $75,250, without benefits.
Armstrong has administrative experience at a private school in Columbus and for Westerville City Schools. She, too, was a victim of budget cuts in Westerville and spent last school year as a certified Apple trainer, providing instruction on ways to use Apple technology in the classroom.
Armstrong's salary, without taking benefits into account, will be $77,078 a year.
"Ms. Zywczyk and Ms. Armstrong have a demonstrated history of excellent teaching and are skilled in coaching teachers to improve instruction," Superintendent Kimberley Miller-Smith said.
"Aware of the emotional, physical and intellectual characteristics of the students learning in their respective buildings, these administrators discussed ways to capitalize on our students' characteristics to increase student achievement," she said. "Finally, the new administrators firmly believe in the strengthening of parent and family partnerships and are excited to get to know our families and to work with them."
