Canal Winchester Local School District teachers will see a 1-percent pay raise beginning July 1, 2013.

During a special meeting last week, the CW school board approved a two-year negotiated agreement with the Canal Winchester Education Association.

Under terms of the agreement, the 227 teachers in the district will receive a 1-percent increase to the base salary schedule for the 2013-14 contract year and a 1-percent increase in base salary for the 2014-15 contract year, which runs through June 30, 2015.

Although teachers will receive a little more in income, some will pay more for health-insurance coverage.

As part of the agreement, the employee share of single health coverage will raise from 7 percent to 10 percent, effective July 2013.

Currently, 79 employees under this plan pay $43.68 per month for health insurance.

Under the new plan, teachers with single coverage will pay $62.40 each month.
