Community garden effort under way

Sunday April 14, 2013 9:52 PM

The city of Canal Winchester is accepting requests from residents for community garden plots in the seventh annual community garden to be located behind Bolenbaugh Hardware, in the grassy area referred to as Emma's Meadow.

Participation is limited to residents within the corporation limits only. All plots will be allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis, so anyone interested is encouraged to turn in the required agreement as soon possible.

Plots will be assigned on April 30.

There are 55 garden plots, each measuring 10 feet by 20 feet. Households may request more than one plot, but additional plots will only be assigned if plots are still available after each household requesting a plot has received one. The Canal Winchester Rotary club will be tilling and marking off the plots.

Participants will be responsible for taking care of their designated space, including supplying water to their plot (not available at the site) and removing any plant or other materials by Nov. 1.

Agreement forms are available at the city's municipal building, 36 S. High St., and online at canalwinchesterohio. gov. For more information, contact Diane Mays at 614-837-7501 or dmays@canalwinchesterohio.gov.
