Volunteers of America's seventh annual Operation Backpack program, which provides homeless and at-risk Ccentral Ohio children with school supplies, begins July 22, when donation boxes will be placed at Volunteers of America Thrift stores and all Columbus Metropolitan Library branches.
The boxes will hold donations of backpacks and school supplies.
The Volunteers of America relies on the support of individuals, community groups and corporations to give hundreds of children the chance to go back to school with the supplies they need. VOA President and CEO Dennis Kresak in a news release said providing school supplies gives children a fair start.
"Preparing kids with a backpack and school supplies eliminates one major hurdle and allows kids to focus that energy on succeeding in school," Kresak said.
