Authors, both burgeoning and well-practiced, from throughout Ohio will be invited to promote their books to the reading public next month during an authors' fair at the Pickerington Public Library.
No matter if they're self-published or have released books through companies, and regardless of genre, the Pickerington Public Library hopes to collect an array of writers for its first Author Fair on Sept. 28.
The registration deadline for authors to take part in the fair is Sept. 25. Sign-up can be completed online at pickeringtonlibrary.org by clicking on the green tab for "Local Author Fair."
Those who participate will be provided a table and two chairs, at which they can sell their books at the library, 201 Opportunity Way, Pickerington, from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 28.
The library will not charge a fee to authors for the tables and won't collect any proceeds from sales completed during the fair.
However, all entrants must donate a signed copy of their books to the library's collection.
"We want to be a venue for authors in Ohio to sell their books," said Colleen Bauman, community services coordinator at the Pickerington Public Library.
"We get requests from people all the time who are self-published. We want all types. If someone wants to showcase their books, we want them."
In addition to registration, the library will require authors to have bound books available for sale during the fair. Book content also must be in line with materials the library would include in its collection.
"They will be responsible for selling the books themselves," Bauman said. "The library staff can't touch the money.
"The only payment is a signed book from the author because we want to create our own collection of Ohio authors here at the library."
As registrations come in, the library will attempt to promote authors and their works through social media outlets such as Twitter and Facebook.
Bauman said the library hopes to help the authors promote themselves and their work, but the fair also will serve as opportunities for authors to interact with other writers and let the public make connections with writers.
"The authors will get to talk to other writers, but it also gives the public a place to come in and see lots of different authors and hear lots of different perspectives," she said. "We want authors that have written children's books, Christian books, fiction books, everything.
"We'll have quite a variety."
