Canal Winchester schools will be rolling out three new buses to replace an aging fleet.
The board of education authorized the purchase of three International Harvester buses Feb. 10 from Rush International at a cost of nearly $78,000 each.
Mike Bruning, director of operations for the school district, said the district operates with 46 buses. The new ones will be delivered within the next 60 days.
He said the new vehicles will replace two that were purchased in 1995 and that have more than 204,000 miles on them. A third bus that was bought in 1999 has accumulated more than 214,000 miles.
Bruning said the three buses that will be replaced have also been the most costly to maintain.
"This past year, (2012-13 school year), we spent $20,926 in parts for these three buses," he said. "We anticipated spending about $81,000 in parts over the next three years."
