Canal Winchester students return to class Aug. 18

Most Canal Winchester students will step back into the classroom on Monday, Aug. 18.

Kindergarten students, however, will return to class on Thursday, Aug. 21.

Superintendent Jim Sotlar said his administrative team, teachers and staff are ready for students' return.

"CWLS is a great school district in a great community. I am thankful for the support of our community and all the great people working in our district," he said. "It is going to be another great year."

The district will again hold what it calls Student Discovery Meetings in all buildings.

Online registration for the meetings will be available after Thursday, Aug. 14, on the district's website at www.cwschools.org.

According to information from the district, the 15-minute sessions help teachers learn about their students by giving parents a chance to share information about their children's interests, educational experiences and personalities.

* Indian Trail Elementary will be open for students to drop off school supplies, find their classrooms and meet their teachers from 3:15 to 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14.

Kindergarten Welcome Back meetings in the cafeteria are scheduled from 3:15 to 3:30 p.m.; first-grade meetings will be from 3:45 to 4 p.m., and second-grade meetings are scheduled for 4:15 to 4:30 p.m.

Student Discovery Meetings for first- and second-graders will be scheduled between 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, or Thursday, Sept. 4.

Kindergarten discovery meetings will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 11.

Indian Trail students in first and second grades will return to class at 8:55 a.m. Aug. 18 and dismiss at 3:30 p.m.

Kindergarten students will return to school Aug. 21. The morning kindergarten session runs from 8:55 to 11:40 a.m. and the afternoon session times are from 12:45 to 3:30 p.m.

Kindergartners will be scheduled for an hour of testing on either Aug. 18, 19 or 20. Parents should receive letters before school starts informing them of specific times and dates for their children.

* Winchester Trail Elementary has planned a new program to start the school year: Parents of students in preschool and grades 3-5 are asked to remain with their children throughout scheduled back-to-school meetings on Thursday, Aug. 14.

The third-grade session is scheduled from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m.; fourth grade from 6 to 6:45 p.m. and fifth grade from 7 to 7:45 p.m. Children will be able to meet their teachers, drop off their supplies and find their classrooms during these times.

Student Discovery Meetings for Winchester Trail will be scheduled between 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 3 and Sept. 11.

Winchester Trail will open for the school year on Aug. 18. Grades 3-5 will attend class from 9 a.m. to 3:35 p.m. Preschool students will attend either from 9 to 11:45 a.m. or from 12:50 to 3:35 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Student Discovery Meetings at Winchester Trail will be held Sept. 3 or Sept. 11 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

* Canal Winchester Middle School students in sixth grade will have their orientation and schedule pick-up from 6:45 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14.

Students should report to their "home base" at 6:45 p.m.

Seventh- and eighth-grade students can pick up their schedules by meeting at their home base at 5 p.m. and will be there until 6:15 p.m.

Middle school students will return to class on Aug. 18; their day will last from 7:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Student Discovery Meetings will be held Aug. 27 and Sept. 4 between 4:30 and 7:30 p.m.

* Canal Winchester High School students will return to class on Aug. 18. Their school day will run from 7:35 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.

Student Discovery Meetings for high school students will be held between 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 26 and Sept. 3.
