Board extends Supt. Sotlar's contract

By

The Canal Winchester Board of Education has approved a five-year contract extension for Superintendent Jim Sotlar, even though his current contract won't expire until July 31, 2015.

The new contract runs from Aug. 1, 2015 through July 31, 2020.

"Jim Sotlar has been a wonderful addition to the Canal Winchester Local School District," board President Robert Toledo said. "With all of the changes at the state level, the board felt we needed to extend his contract.

"With the retirement of key positions at the district office, it was imperative to have Mr. Sotlar in position for the long haul," he added.

Assistant Superintendent Barb Harrison retired July 1.

The contract does not include a salary increase but does give Sotlar five additional vacation days.

His current contract provides for 20 days of vacation.

Under the extended contract, he can trade up to 10 vacation days per year for cash.

Currently, Sotlar earns $124,766 annually or $479.69 per day.
