Boys squad looks to rebound

The Groveport Madison High School boys basketball team allowed an average of 91 points in a pair of losses last week.

The Cruisers lost to Pickerington Central 98-80 on Jan. 14 and Gahanna 84-63 on Jan. 17 to drop to 8-6 overall and 2-6 in the OCC-Ohio Division.

Groveport plays host to Grove City on Friday, Jan. 24.

The Cruisers lost to the Greyhounds 96-66 on Dec. 13 in the first round of league play. Tyrell Carter had 19 points and Tyrone Cherry scored 13 for the Cruisers while Grove City had five players score in double figures, including Nick Bapst with 21.

Groveport then will face Lancaster in a league game Tuesday, Jan. 28, at home.

The Cruisers beat the Golden Gales 76-53 on Dec. 17, getting 15 points from C.J. Crowder, 12 from Carter and 11 from Carmearl Thomas.

Cherry had a team-high 16 points against Pickerington Central, which outscored the Cruisers 59-35 in the middle two quarters. Crowder (15), Carter (13) and Thomas (10) also scored in double figures.

Tyus Ferguson had a team-high 20 points against Gahanna, which led 41-23 at halftime. Carter and Crowder added 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Wrestlers getting set for home invitational

The wrestling team will play host to the Cruiser Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 25.

The 12-team field includes Dresden Tri-Valley, Logan, New Albany, Olentangy Orange, Pickerington North, Ready, Teays Valley, Troy, Westerville Central, Westerville South and Whitehall.

Struggles continue for girls basketball team

The girls basketball team was 0-14 overall before playing Hamilton Township on Jan. 21.

Groveport lost to Pickerington Central 72-29 on Jan. 14 and Gahanna 50-26 on Jan. 17 in OCC-Ohio games to fall to 0-8 in the league. Diaba Diane had a team-high 10 points against Pickerington Central.

Boys bowling team keeps on rolling

The boys bowling team entered the week 9-2 overall, 7-1 in the Central Ohio High School Bowling Conference-South and 2-1 in the OCC-Ohio.

The Cruisers were third in the 16-team COHSBC-South entering play Jan. 21, behind Teays Valley (9-0) and Briggs (10-1).

Brandon Klentz had a team-high 195.3 game average through 11 matches. James Jervis (187.4) was next, followed by Jordan Bennett (172.6), Devon Stepney (149.5) and Dakota Harmon (144.4).

The girls team entered the week 5-5 overall, 4-3 in the 14-team COHSBC-South and 1-2 in the OCC-Ohio.

Elizabeth Moore is the team's leading scorer, having averaged a 176.2 per game through 10 matches. Tewana Smiley (125.9) was next, followed by Kahlia Killen (107.6), Bonnie Kyle (104.3) and Loren Jackson (95.3).
