Clintonville native Rob Bean, now of Fort Collins, Colo., recently completed a three-day, 250-mile canoe trek, raising money for charity Heifer International along the way.

Bean, who learned to paddle along central Ohio's rivers and creeks, paddled for 33 hours along the North Platte River in Wyoming to raise $7,200 for Heifer International, a charity that provides animals to the poor and teaches them how to use agriculture to support themselves.

Bean's trip, which collected money from individuals, churches and businesses, set a team fundraising record for Heifer International. Bean will continue to collect donations for the charity through July on his Web site, moocanoe.com.

Bean said he is looking at continuing his charity event, dubbed the Big Moo Canoe, next year.
