The Clintonville Area Commission's North Broadway and High Task Force once again has delayed a meeting to present its draft traffic plan to the public because it still needs more information from the city.

The Clintonville Area Commission's North Broadway and High Task Force once again has delayed a meeting to present its draft traffic plan to the public because it still needs more information from the city.

The task force originally had planned to hold a public meeting June 18, which was then delayed to June 25. That meeting now has been postponed indefinitely, said task force chairman and commissioner Mike McLaughlin.

Because the task force is unsure of when the city will provide the requested information, members decided at the group's June 18 meeting to postpone the June 25 meeting indefinitely rather than rescheduling and risking the need to postpone the meeting again.

"Members of the task force got a little bit frustrated, and we don't want to keep pulling the public's chain," McLaughlin said.

The task force submitted its "Complete Street" plan for North Broadway to the city earlier this month. The task force has asked the city to provide feedback on the feasibility for the various elements of the plan.

The task force then planned to meet to tweak its plan based on the city's feedback. Members then planned a public meeting to present the plan and garner more feedback before finalizing the plan to present as recommendations to the CAC.

When the task force was formed by the CAC at its April meeting, commissioners asked that the task force present recommendations at the commission's June meeting so the group could vote before new commissioners were installed at the July meeting.

Without the city's feedback, the task force cannot move forward toward finalizing the plan, McLaughlin said.

"We're just in a holding pattern," he said.

The task force does plan to keep its June 29 meeting, in hopes that the city will have provided the needed information to the task force by then. If that is the case, McLaughlin said, the task force should have information on a public meeting to present at the CAC's July 9 meeting.

The draft "Complete Street" plan, created by the task force to solve traffic problems in the neighborhoods surrounding the North Broadway and North High Street intersection, includes measures such as lowering the speed limit on North Broadway, adding street trees and signs for school zones.

The plan also recommends adopting the city's proposal to widen East North Broadway by 10 feet between North High Street and Broadway Place to add a left turn lane as a short-term traffic solution and seeking the construction of a roundabout at the intersection as a long-term solution.

The entire draft plan can be viewed on the CAC's Web site, www.clintonvilleareacommission.org.
