The annual summer celebration for members of Simply Living, "Light Upon Light," is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 1.

It will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Mount Vernon home of Simply Living members Liz and Eric Hansen. The former Columbus residents, a physician and computer programmer, moved about 50 miles from Clintonville to lead a simpler existence, according to Simply Living director Marilyn Welker.

"While a bit of a road trip, we think seeing Liz and Eric's new, and simple, off-the-grid home and surroundings will inspire you and accent summer's magic," according to the announcement.

"It was more like jumping headfirst into a pond of unknown depth," Liz Hansen said in the announcement. "At least that's what it felt like for me, who grew up in the suburbs and had spent the previous seven years living in Columbus. How did I get here, to this off-the-grid home?"

The event, which will feature a dinner of local organic foods, is open to anyone, but seating is limited and reservations are requested. The cost is $25 a person or $40 a couple. Reservations may be made by calling the Simply Living office at 447-0296 or sending an e-mail to missy@simplyliving.org.

"Join us for an evening or fellowship and discovering the wonders Liz and Eric are learning about on their journey," the announcement said.
