Indianola Presbyterian Church, located just east of the Ohio State University campus, will celebrate its 100th anniversary Nov. 7-8.

Congregants first met on July 4, 1909, in a tent on the Neil homestead grounds at Indianola and 15th avenues, according to the announcement from a church spokesman. The church's charter was signed by 118 charter members on Nov. 7, 1909.

William Oxley Thompson, then-president of Ohio State, was one of the founders of the congregation.

"In 1915, the church was led in a parade by the Ohio State band to its present building at 1970 Waldeck Avenue," the announcement stated. "Strong ties with OSU remain, including frequent midnight breakfasts served to college students, tailgating before home football games and a campus ministry featuring discussion groups focused on issues pertinent to the student population."

Indianola Presbyterian has had nine senior pastors since 1909. The church is now led by Rev. Skip Jackson, who has been senior pastor for nine years.

A 100th anniversary dinner will be held on Saturday, Nov. 7. The festival anniversary service on Sunday, Nov. 8, will have several previous pastors and associate pastors in attendance.
