Saturday, July 31, will mark the grand reopening of the Lend-A-Hand Thrift Shop at 4392 Indianola Ave.

It will be an open house "Good Neighbor Day" hosted by the organization Empowerment Team, a group of individuals with developmental disabilities who manage the Lend-A-Hand Thrift Store.

"This is a unique group of individuals who are making a difference with their lives and disabilities," said Brenda Doner, volunteer director of Lend-a-Hand Industries Inc., which will benefit from Good Neighbor Day.

Lend-a-Hand Industries, according to the announcement, is a Christian nonprofit organization and community resource center helping individuals with mental retardation, development disabilities, mental health problems and addictions.

As part of the grand reopening, officials with the thrift store will have the "Rascal Unit" on hand for a Pet Wellness Clinic. Sign-in for services begins at 10 a.m. with low-cost micro-chipping and vaccination packages offered from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Spot Dog Mobile Grooming will be on hand to offer pet nail-trimming for $4.

"The day will also feature a huge yard sale, with items from one penny to 50 cents," Doner said, "and, a wonderful clothing Fill a small grocery bag for just $1."

There will be hot dogs and treats from Wunderdaug Super Hot Dogs, an ice cream truck, a caricature artist doing drawings from noon to 2 p.m. and a Silly Snap Band trading table.
