When the Clintonville Area Commission next meets, two commendations will be issued for Columbus Division of Police officer John Sullivan, who was wounded in the line of duty in late April.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 7, in the Whetstone branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library.

Sullivan, who at one time served in the precinct that includes Clintonville, will receive a commendation from state Sen. Jim Hughes (R-Columbus) and one from the commission, CAC District 7 Rep. Dave Southan said last week.

Southan is the CAC's safety liaison.

The July 7 meeting will follow a 6 p.m. session of the zoning and variance committee, according to CAC chairman John DeFourny.

The regular session will open with the welcoming of new members Rob Wood and Nancy Kuhel.

Wood replaces Mike McLaughlin as the District 1 representative, and Kuhel succeeds Sarah Snyder, representing District 2.

Snyder and McLaughlin didn't seek re-election in May.

Also on the agenda will be variance requests related to the property at 60 Oakland Park Ave. One is for a reduction in the side-yard setback from 10 feet to 8 feet; the other is for a side-yard setback reduction from 5 feet to 3 feet.

Both requests involve to a proposed carport with a second-story room addition.

Community updates are expected from Isom Nivins, the neighborhood liaison; Columbus Public Health Healthy Places coordinator Betsy Pandora, on proposed Art Walk maps for Clintonville; and Shirley Cotter of Clean Up & Recycling Backers (CURB).
