Farmers market finale is Nov. 19
A total of 35 Ohio farmers, bakers and cheese-makers are expected to be on hand Saturday, Nov. 19, for the 2011 finale of the Clintonville farmers market.
The Thanksgiving Harvest Market will be held at the same location, on North High Street between Orchard Lane and West Dunedin Road, and during the same hours, 9 a.m. to noon, as the regular market, which opened its ninth season on April 30.
The swan song event “allows cooks to stock up for holiday meals and a last chance to store up food for the winter months,” market manager Laura Zimmerman said in a press release.
Late fall produce, pasture-raised meats, eggs, cheeses, grains, beans, mushrooms, artisan breads, baked goods, locally roasted coffees, maple syrup, honey and honey products, jams, flowers, native plants, wood products, and fibers will be available.
Special holiday and gift items will include molded beeswax candles, gift baskets of Ohio products and warm alpaca socks. Available at the market tent will be Friends of the Clintonville farmers market gift memberships.
“With the 2011 season complete, the nonprofit market board begins strategic planning for the 2012 season to open late April,” according to Zimmerman. “Other off-season activities center on Friends of the Clintonville Farmers' Market, an education and advocacy group that includes market volunteers.”
Information about the organization is available at www.clintonvillefarmersmarket.org.
“The mission of the Clintonville farmers market is to create a venue where market patrons can meet the farmers who grow their food and to educate the patrons about the benefits of locally grown produce and products,” Zimmerman stated.
