Ohio Craft Museum’s holiday exhibit runs through Dec. 23
Although the Ohio Craft Museum’s 12th annual holiday exhibition and gift sale didn’t open until recently, sales were already being made earlier in the week.
“People know about the exhibition and we had it set up, so our sales were already pretty brisk” even before the official opening, museum executive director Sharon Kokot said.
During the “Gifts of the Craftsmen” exhibition, which runs through Dec. 23, the museum will display items including handcrafted jewelry, pottery, art glass, baskets and clothing created by more than 60 fine craft artists from around Ohio and across the nation.
“We have a lot of new artists this year, which is pretty exciting,” Kokot said.
Everything on display is for sale, she said.
“We have something for all budgets,” Kokot said, from $4 stocking stuffers to glass spheres and vases by Massachusetts artist Josh Simpson that cost hundreds of dollars.
“All of the items are one-of-a-kind or limited edition hand-made pieces,” Kokot said.
The exhibition includes a number of new theme trees, each featuring particular types of ornaments for sale, she said.
The ornaments include wooden Swedish-style adornments, felted birds, paper houses and traditional stars and snowflakes, Kokot said.
Other featured items in the exhibition include prints and holiday cards created by Columbus-area artist Evangelia Philippidis, fine-metal jewelry by Patricia McCleary, clocks made from found materials by Mark Brown and colorful blown glass gourds by Jack Pine.
During the holiday exhibition, the museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
The museum is located at 1665 W. Fifth Ave. Admission and parking is free.
One-day gift-making workshops for children ages 6-12 will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Dec. 19, 20 and 21.
Youngsters will be able to create two objects suitable for gift-giving complete with gift wrap. Different projects will be featured each day.
The fee is $35 and before- and after-care will be available. Pre-registration is required and can be made by calling the museum at 486-4402.
