The members of the panel charged with devising rules for the next Clintonville Area Commission election are scheduled to hold an initial meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 1.

It will start at 6:30 p.m. in the Whetstone Community Center, chairman Ian MacConnell said.

Districts 4, 5 and 7, the seats currently held by Mike Folmar, Nick Cipiti and Dave Southan, will be up for election on the first Saturday in May.

"Our primary mission is to create a fair election," MacConnell said. "In the past, I see there have been some concerns about enough notice for people who are going to be doing absentee balloting. We're going to take a look at that."

At the first meeting of 2012, CAC members voted unanimously in favor of a proposed election committee formed by MacConnell. The members include Tom Stockdale of District 6, Terri Cohagen of District 2, Frank Williams of District 6 and Kristin Schoeff of District 3. None is from the three districts with seats up for election on May 5.

MacConnell also has created a tentative calendar for the commission voting, which will also be reviewed by members of the committee in order to, he said, "provide everybody a meaningful way of voting and a fair way of voting."

The schedule calls for candidate nominating packets and mail-in ballot requests to be available starting Saturday, Feb. 25.

The nominating forms would have to be returned by Saturday, March 24.
Candidates would be certified by the nominating committee on Wednesday, April 4, and announced at the following evening's CAC meeting.
