Commission seeks hopefuls from three districts

Ballots can be cast May 4 -- or earlier

By

Clintonville Area Commission election committee Chairwoman Sarah Snyder last week issued a formal call for candidates in the three districts that will be up for election May 4.

The terms for representatives of Districts 3, 6 and 8 expire this year. Those seats currently are held by James Blazer II, Jennifer Kangas and Kristopher Keller, respectively

Snyder said those interested in being a commissioner must be 18 or older and reside in the district in which they declare candidacy.

Candidate packets, including nominating petitions, are available at the Whetstone branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library, 3909 N. High St.

An orientation for candidates will be held at 6:30 p.m. March 11 at the Whetstone Community Center, 3923 N. High St.

The May 4 election will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude at 2 p.m. at the library. Votes will be counted by committee members beginning at 2:15 p.m.

Unofficial election results will be announced after the counting session.

Residents not available to vote on May 4 may vote in advance from 5:30 to 8 p.m. April 30 at the library.

"The best way for a resident to vote in the election is to cast their ballot, in person, on May 4," Snyder said.

Those wishing to vote must prove they are 18 or older and that they reside in the district in which they wish to cast their ballot. Photo IDs will be reviewed by the committee prior to the distribution of ballots.

Voters without proper identification may sign a residency statement to receive a ballot.

In addition to offering Election Day and advance, in-person voting, the committee will offer a mail-in ballot option. The ballots are not anonymous and are subject to post-election challenge, Snyder said.

To obtain a mail-in ballot, residents must complete a request form and return it, with a self-addressed, stamped envelope, to Election Committee, Clintonville Area Commission, PO Box 141503, Columbus 43214.

Committee members will handle requests April 15.
