Wine Bistro fills need in stretch of High Street

Restaurant VP: 'Underserved' section of town looking forward to new option

Anticipation is growing for the newest version of the Wine Bistro restaurant, scheduled to open March 25 in Clintonville.

The restaurant, in a new building at 4416 N. High St. just north of Henderson Road, joins the existing Wine Bistro locations in Upper Arlington and Worthington.

"We felt Clintonville was a great neighborhood that was, in this particular area, underserved in terms of restaurants," Jim Sams, vice president and director of operations for parent corporation City Brands Management LLC, said last week. "We thought it would be a great location for that reason, for one."

Apparently, he added, neighborhood residents feel the same.

"People are looking forward to us, I think," Sams said. "We set up a Facebook page and we've got 280 likes and we haven't even opened up our doors."

According to the Wine Bistro's website, the menu supports pairings to enhance the wine experience, and some menu items are created using the wines served. The small-plate selections, appetizers, flatbreads and entrees lend themselves to sharing -- a big part of the Wine Bistro experience, the site says.

The newest location, with plenty of parking behind the building, can seat 124 people -- eight of them at the bar, Sams said.

"We have a variety of seating patterns," he added. "We have a gathering table that seats about 20 people. We have a private tasting room that will seat 12 to 14 people. We do reservations, reserving half of the restaurant.

"It's a very casual, laid-back atmosphere, with eclectic furnishings. We do a lot of variations with the furniture, unique light fixtures that we've actually built ourselves. The furniture doesn't all match. It's more of a California wine vineyard feel. Rustic is a good description."

The menu at the Wine Bistro ranges from warm Greek olives, chorizo-stuffed mushrooms and baked French brie for small plates and starters, to an array of salads and entrees that include lobster and shrimp fettuccini, crab cakes and confetti slaw, and roasted chicken.

Hours for the newest addition to the Clintonville dining scene will be 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, noon to 8 p.m. Sunday.
