Clintonville residents Tim Lai of Tim Lai ArchitecT, and Brad Steinmetz, an Ohio State University Department of Theater professor, won the 2013 World Stage Design Award.
Their entry, "Willow Theater," is a recyclable stage. Layers of dangling fabrics make the stage's exterior, and the entire structure is composed of locally sourced, reusable or recyclable materials. The temporary yet fully functional stage seats 150 people.
"Willow Theater" will be constructed and on view in September in Cardiff, England, where it will serve as a venue for performances, exhibitions, seminars, talks and workshops during a 10-day festival held at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
World Stage Design, held every four years, is a celebration of international performance design from the world of theater, opera and dance as well as public performances and installations in non-theater spaces. For more information, visit wsd2013.com.
