Growl! will add the latest dimension to Clintonville’s emerging food and wine scene.
Philip Hamilton and Jonathan Kindsvatter, who both live in the neighborhood, will open the boutique beer and wine store in the former Hungry Howie’s storefront, 2995 N. High St.
The plan is to open in early November.
“I think Clintonville has been really hungry for interesting wines and beers that were only available in the Short North,” Hamilton said.
He said Growl! would offer 40 taps and up to 200 “rare and interesting” beers by the bottle, offered in six-packs and individual bottles. The store initially will have carryout and on-premises beer and wine tastings, with plans to offer glass and pint pours when more comprehensive liquor licenses are obtained.
Growl! will not have food service but will allow patrons to order small plates from Lavash, the Mediterranean restaurant next door.
