Mozart's plans St. Patrick's Day party

Mozart's will open with special hours this year for St. Patrick's Day on Monday, March 17, featuring live traditional Irish music from the General Guinness Band as well as a menu with Irish fare.

Mozart's, 4784 N. High St. in Clintonville, is typically closed on Mondays, but it will open from 4 to 8 p.m. March 17 for the St. Patrick's Day Celebration. There is a $5 cover fee, with a maximum of $20 per family (parents and children).

Mozart's will provide a special menu for the day. First course choices include Irish potato pancakes with smoked salmon and sour cream or Reuben salad with Irish soda bread. Second course choices include Irish lamb stew or house-corned beef with cabbage and red potatoes.

Performing together since 1980, General Guinness combines Irish ballads with traditional fiddle tunes and Irish step dancing. The sound is predominately energetic vocal music seasoned with jigs, reels and hornpipes along with a display of "the steps."

Lead vocalist is Clintonville resident James O'Shea, who grew up in Kilkenny, Ireland. Highlights from the band's performing history include a 10-day tour of the former Soviet Union, 18 shows at Dollywood's Valley Theater in Tennessee and a guest appearance with the Chieftains.

Other members of the band include: West Side resident Larry Dulin (Irish flute and whistles); Westerville resident Steve Steele (guitar); Westerville resident Sheree Green (fiddle); Gahanna resident Carol Metheny (fiddle); Clintonville resident Tom Davis (Irish drum and banjo); and Clintonville resident Judy Davis (step dancing).
