Fourth organizers: We're halfway to fundraising goal

Organizers of Clintonville's July Fourth celebration say they're about halfway to their goal of raising $80,000 toward the event.

This year's Independence Day activities run from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. July 4 at Whetstone Park and will feature everything from a 5K run and walk and the traditional community breakfast to a fishing derby and a costume contest for pets.

Volunteers from Clintonville July Fourth Celebration, an organization formed 14 years ago to ensure the tradition's 60-plus-year run continues, promote and staff the event and clean up afterward.

However, funds are needed for police protection, EMS services, portable toilets, a stage and sound system, insurance, generators, fish for the pond, a security fence for the fireworks site and, of course, the pyrotechnics themselves.

Those who wish to donate may use the envelope found in today's ThisWeek Booster, or send checks to Clintonville July 4th Celebration, PO Box 141463, Columbus 43214. Donations also may be made at
