The Clintonville Farmers Market will host a benefit concert next Thursday, June 26, with proceeds going to a Clintonville-Beechwold Community Resources Center program for low-income senior citizens.
The local band Anna and the Consequences will perform at India Oak Bar and Grill, 590 Oakland Park Ave. The concert will run from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., "unless they're having so much fun that they play until 10," according to the announcement from Michelle White, market manager.
The event's theme is to "help us help families and seniors shop at our market," the announcement said. Proceeds will provide $50 market vouchers to low-income senior clients of the Clintonville-Beechwold Community Resources Center and help families who receive assistance to stretch their shopping dollars at the market.
CRC's "To Market To Market" program for seniors has a waiting list, and proceeds from the benefit will go first to make sure every senior is served. The board of directors of the Clintonville Farmers Market also has agreed to issue vouchers to families who need assistance to purchase the food that farmers and producers bring to the market every Saturday and, from June 18 through Aug. 20, each Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m., White said.
In addition to the music June 26, the evening will include a 50-50 raffle, T-shirt sales and specials on several draft beers. A minimum $10 contribution is requested from participants.
The 50-50 raffle will feature single tickets for $1, 10 tickets for $5, 25 tickets for $10 or 50 tickets for $20. The drawing will be at 9:30 p.m. The winner must be present for the drawing.
"I hope people will come just as we start at 7 p.m., buy a sandwich and a beer and settle in for a great evening," said Sharon West, president of the market board, in the announcement.
Parking is available in the bar's small parking lot, on the street and in the parking lots of nearby businesses after business hours.
Also on sale that evening will be Clintonville Farmers Market green cotton 2014 T-shirts for $15.
Anna and the Consequences, frequent performers at the market, will give a preview show Saturday, June 21, in the entertainment tent.
