Watterson High School senior football player Matt Redfield is a preferred walk-on at Bowling Green State University.

The Division III defensive district Player of the Year at linebacker will join Eagles teammate Hunter Maynard - who verbally committed Jan. 24 - on the Falcons.

Redfield was the state's co-Defensive Player of the Year and made the ThisWeek Super 25 on the way to helping Watterson win the state championship last fall. He finished with 72 tackles on defense and was the Eagles' leading rusher with 507 yards and eight touchdowns while at running back.

Redfield also was offered a scholarship by Illinois State, and Ohio State and Michigan State were among the other schools that showed interest in him as a preferred walk-on.

Other players from the Central District who committed to Bowling Green, according to Scout.com, include Bloom-Carroll's Tyler Tate and Pickerington North's Alex Huettel.
