The Watterson High School boys basketball team routed Sandusky Perkins 53-34 in a Division II regional semifinal March 14 at Bowling Green State University.
Watterson improved to 25-1 and will face Cleveland Benedictine or Lima Bath in a regional final at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 16, at Bowling Green. Perkins finished 21-6.
“We played excellent defense and executed our game plan on both sides of the floor extremely well throughout the game,” Watterson coach Vince Lombardo said. “We were able to control Perkins with our defense pretty well. We also did a nice job of scoring in transition when we could, and we did a nice job of being patient offensively when we needed to. I’m very pleased with our all-around effort.”
Junior guard Cody Calhoun scored 14 points, junior wing player Andy Grieser and junior post player Matt Hughes scored 12 points apiece for Watterson.
Watterson, which has never won a regional title, now has qualified to compete in a regional final three times after also making it that far under Lombardo in 2004 and 2009.
