Delaware County Democrats will hold a bean soup and cornbread supper from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at the Delaware Area Career Center North campus on state Route 521.

Admission is a minimum donation of $10. Those donating a $100 sponsorship will get their name on the program.

All profits go to the local Democratic candidates, who will attend.

Keep Delaware County Beautiful's annual Appliance and Computer Dropoff Event is planned for Saturday, May 3.

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Delaware County residents can visit the city of Delaware's Cherry Street facility to dispose of large appliances, computer equipment and peripherals, and cell phones. Residents also can get up to five boxes of personal documents shredded. Donations will be accepted to help offset recycling costs.

Freon will be removed from refrigeration appliances prior to recycling. Television sets and other electronic appliances other than computers will not be accepted.

The dropoff has been organized by Keep Delaware County Beautiful, the Delaware General Health District's recycling and litter prevention program, with support from the Delaware-Knox-Marion-Morrow Solid Waste District and the City of Delaware.

The Delaware General Health District invites rural homeowners to attend a free workshop on septic system care and maintenance on Wednesday, May 7.

The workshop is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. at A.D. Farrow Co. Harley-Davidson on U.S. Route 36 at Interstate 71.

Homeowners will learn how to maintain their septic tanks and aerators and how to know if the system has problems.

Motorcyclists will be challenged to ride tricycles through an obstacle course at a special safety event Saturday, May 10.

It will be a challenge because of "Fatal Vision" goggles, which blur vision in a way that mimics drunkenness.

The challenge will be one of the safety activities offered at the Delaware County Safe Communities Motorcycle Safety Demonstration from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will be at A.D. Farrow & Co. Harley-Davidson on U.S. Route 36 at Interstate 71 near Sunbury.

The safety demonstration is scheduled in conjunction with special promotions planned by the dealership.
