The second annual Summer Letterbox Adventure will begin June 6, Preservation Parks of Delaware County has announced.

Project participants follow clues developed by the Preservation Parks park naturalist to find hidden boxes in seven Preservation Parks preserves.

When participants find the boxes, they can follow instructions to complete activities that teach kids about nature and encourage them to "Be Creative!" -- the theme of county library summer reading programs. Preservation Parks is offering the program in partnership with the Delaware County District Library, Sunbury's Community Library and Ashley's Wornstaff Memorial Library.

Children who find all of the letterboxes will be entered in a drawing for prizes that include Columbus Zoo and Aquarium passes and gift certificates to Fundamentals Parent Teacher store and Beehive Books.

Packets that include a registration form, information about the parks, instructions, all the clues and places to record letterbox information will be available at summer reading program kick-off events at county libraries.

They are scheduled as follows:

Community Library, 44 Burrer Drive, Sunbury, 11 a.m. June 6.

Delaware County District Library, 84 E. Winter St., 2 p.m., June 7.

Powell branch of the Delaware County District Library, 460 S. Liberty St., 6:30 p.m., June 8.

Ostrander branch of the Delaware County District Library, 75 N. Fourth St., 6:30 p.m., June 9.

Ashley Wornstaff Memorial Library, 302 E. High St., 10:30 a.m., June 15.

Families may register throughout the summer at each library, or they can request packets by calling Preservation Parks at (740) 524-8600, extension 5.

The Summer Letterbox Adventure is designed to extend and augment nature education children receive in school. The project ends Aug. 8.
