Delaware's annual Memorial Day parade will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 30.

The event is organized by the Delaware County parade committee and will form in the Ohio Wesleyan University parking areas near Rickey Arena and Park Avenue, traveling north on Sandusky Street through the downtown to Pennsylvania Avenue and into the county fairgrounds' main gate.

City and county offices will be closed in observance of the holiday on Monday, May 31. Residential refuse, recycling and yard waste crews for the city of Delaware will be utilizing the "next day" collection schedule during this week.

For all households, refuse, recycling and yard waste collections will be made the day following your normal collection day during the week beginning Tuesday, June 1. Saturday, June 5, will be utilized to complete the collections for the week. Collections will return to the normal collection day the following week.

The Delaware Area Chamber of Commerce will move on June 1 to its new location at 32 S. Sandusky St. in downtown Delaware.

The phone line and Internet will be down from May 27 until June 2.

The application deadline for Community Foundation of Delaware County scholarships is June 10.

The Ralph and Mabel Gooding Memorial Scholarship is the Foundation's largest scholarship fund. The awards, established by a former farmer and a former teacher, are given to Delaware County residents who attended four years of secondary school and graduated from the Big Walnut, Buckeye Valley, Delaware city or Olentangy school district.

To be eligible to apply, students must have completed at least one year of college, be enrolled full time in a bachelor's or associate degree program and possess a grade point average of at least 2.5.

Other scholarships are:

The Donald F. and Ruby A. Westbrook scholarship, for students majoring in agriculture, preferably at Ohio State University. To be eligible, a student must have attended a public or private high school in Delaware County or Morrow County for four years, have completed at least one year of college and have a GPA of at least 2.5.

The Edith W. Hewitt Memorial Scholarship, for students with special financial and family circumstances.

Jack Florance Pool at Mingo Park opened in time for the Memorial Day weekend.

Operating hours are noon to 7 p.m. on May 30 and 31.

Daily admission is $6 for adults and $4 for children. Season passes are on sale and a 10-percent "early-bird" discount is available on passes purchased by Memorial Day. Passes are on sale at the parks and recreation office in Mingo Park and at the pool admissions desk during operating hours.
