Volunteers are needed for the 2010 Scioto River Sweep Litter Cleanup in Delaware County from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 11. The event will begin at the Radnor Township Community Hall, 4061 state Route 203.

Volunteers will clean up riverbanks on foot and the river channel in canoes. Canoes, trash bags, and other equipment needed to collect litter will be provided, plus a free picnic lunch and transportation to and from launch and pickup sites. Volunteers who own canoes are welcome to bring them.

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old, and minors must be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers should wear comfortable clothing and sturdy shoes, and plan to get wet and muddy. To assist with lunch planning, contact Keep Delaware County Beautiful in advance at (740) 368-1700 to register.

The 2010 Scioto River Sweep is organized by Keep Delaware County Beautiful, the Delaware General Health District's recycling and litter prevention program. Additional support and assistance is coming from the Delaware Soil & Water Conservation District, Preservation Parks of Delaware County, the Scioto River Valley Federation, Central Ohio Contractors, Radnor Township, the DKMM Solid Waste District and Pepsi.
