Main Street Delaware to host Harry Potter costume party
Main Street Delaware will host a Harry Potter costume party fundraiser from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. on Friday, July 22, in the Reading Room of Ohio Wesleyan University's Slocum Hall, 75 S. Sandusky St.
The room was chosen for its resemblance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Its 70-foot by 20-foot leaded glass ceiling in particular seems to suggest the Great Hall as described in the books by J.K. Rowling, according to a news release from Main Street.
Tickets are $25 per person, with all proceeds benefiting Main Street, a 501(c) (3) organization. Refreshments will include non-alcoholic butter beer, treacle tarts and other goblin-made goodies. Character look-alike contests will be held, and those in attendance may earn O.W.L.s for their knowledge of all things magical and Muggle.
Helping with the evening's entertainment will be Hayes High School's Harry Potter club, the Muggle Alliance; Ohio Wesleyan University's on-site food service Chartwells; the actors and costumers Dalmatian Alley; and The Alley LLC., a vintage clothing and costume shop in Columbus.
All guests are encouraged to come in costume. Event planners warn that those not in costume run the risk of being considered Muggles and squibs.
Please note that the Slocum Hall Reading Room is accessible only by stairway. For tickets or for more information, call (740) 362-6050.
