Reservations are being taken for Preservation Parks of Delaware County's annual Perseid Meteor Shower Campout.

The free event will be held at Blues Creek Preserve, 9627 Fontanelle Road, near Ostrander. The campout begins at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13 and ends at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 14.

E-mail saundras@preservationparks.com by Aug. 5 with questions or to reserve a spot. Reservations are required.

Campers will be able to view the night sky through scopes, and will view the moon (which will be full that night) and look for shooting stars and other visible celestial objects. A campfire, a night hike and other activities will be included.

Participants must bring their own camping gear, camp chairs, snacks and drinking water.

The annual Perseid Meteor Shower is so named because the meteors seem to arise from the constellation Perseus. The Perseid Meteor Shower has been observed for at least 2,000 years, and it peaks each year around Aug. 12 or 13 with up to 60 meteor sightings per hour. It is a long-lasting shower July 25-Aug. 25 and Preservation Parks' Perseid Meteor Shower Campout falls right at the peak.
