To the editor:

Our Girl Scout troop recently conducted a service project to benefit the Humane Society of Delaware County. We collected needed supplies and coins at Big Walnut Elementary School, General Rosecrans Elementary School, Souders Elementary School and Genoa Christian Academy.

This was our first service project, and we were very excited at the generous response of our fellow students and their families. Students generously donated cat food, cat litter, bleach, laundry detergent, paper towels, No. 10 envelopes, garbage bags and cat toys. Sunbury Ace Hardware generously donated cat food.

We recently learned the humane society needs to buy a new washer and dryer. Given its 40 to 50 loads of laundry each week, an industrial washer and dryer are needed. New ones would cost approximately $30,000. The humane society hopes to buy reconditioned ones for about $10,000.

The humane society would certainly appreciate any donations, which can be mailed to 4920 state Route 37, Delaware OH 43015.

Thank you, Delaware County, for your generous support of our service project and your continued support of the Humane Society of Delaware County. We sincerely appreciate your help, as do the animals.
