A motorcycle poker run and benefit is planned Sept. 8 in Delaware to help raise funds in memory of Harvey Tapp, who was killed in a July 21 automobile accident while working in Jackson, Tenn.

Tapp, 35, was a longtime and well-known Delaware resident, often called "Tapp Daddy."

Event organizers said he had a deep love for family, friends and music, and that is what they hope to celebrate during the event.

"Harvey always had a smile on his face and just had a wonderful spirit about him," said Ella Loudermilk, Tapp's aunt.

"He made sure you knew your importance and value to his life, exhibited by his love and friendship," she said.

"There were many folks interested in providing additional support by holding an event," Loudermilk said. "It was decided to pull all the efforts together to do one big event."

Organizers include his brother, Cody Rucker, as well as cousins, aunts, uncles and many close friends.

"This is a second tragic event for Becky (Tapp's mother)," Loudermilk said.

"She lost her first son at 18 months of age, due to cerebral palsy, 37 years ago," she said, "so we're doing what we feel is needed to show our thanks and love we have for all of them."

Proceeds from the event will be donated to his estate and used to cover medical and funeral expenses.

The poker run will be based at Stop 42, 67 Lake St. in Delaware.

The first motorcycle will depart at 11 a.m. and the last bike will leave Stop 42 at 1 p.m., organizers said.

All motorcyclists are expected to return to Stop 42 by 5 p.m. for a hog roast.

The poker run donation entry fee of $20, $25 for couples, includes dinner.

A dinner-only ticket is $8 per person. The beer crawl donation entry fee is $10.

Organizers said there will be live entertainment starting at 4 p.m. with a disc jockey, then live bands, starting at 9 p.m.

First on the stage will be Algy & the Old Dudes followed by Adam's Base- ment.

A pool tournament, drawings, raffles and additional activities also are planned.

Memorial benefit T-shirts will be sold for $20 each.

Tickets can be purchased in advance or the day of the event at Stop 42.
