Author, cartographer to speak in Harlem
James L. Williams, a professional surveyor from Gahanna and author of Blazes, Posts & Stones: A History of Ohio's Original Land Subdivisions, will speak during a meeting of Harlem Township Heritage Inc., set for 7 p.m. Nov. 8 in the community room of the Harlem Township firehouse, 3883 state Route 605 S., Galena.
The book, to be released in April, is the result of 27 years of research by Williams into the government records of Ohio lands. It contains 180 hand-drawn maps to illustrate the text.
During the meeting, Williams will give an illustrated presentation on some of the highlights of his book and facts pertaining to Harlem Township and the surrounding area.
Williams has been a guest lecturer at Ohio State University, the Virginia Military Institute and on the battlefields at Gettysburg and Fort Recovery. He appeared in the movies Gettysburg and Gods and Generals, and produced period maps for both.
The presentation is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
