Safe Family Day set for June 15
The Delaware County chapter of the American Red Cross will host the 14th annual Safe Family Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at the Delaware campus of Columbus State Community College, 5100 Cornerstone Drive, Delaware.
The free event will emphasize how children can stay safe this summer. Each child will receive a free bicycle helmet with proper fitting while supplies last. According to a news release from the Delaware Red Cross, the Children's Safety Network has said 44 percent of nonfatal bicycle injuries occurred in children and young people ages 5 to 20. Children and youth up to age 20 comprise 23 percent of bicycle fatalities.
Local emergency response teams, firefighters and police officers will attend, and children will have the chance to build a first aid kit, watch safety demonstrations, play games and win prizes. Hot dogs and drinks will be provided.
