Preservation Parks of Delaware County will host a free Perseid Meteor Shower Campout from 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10 to 9 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 11 at Blues Creek Preserve, 9627 Fontanelle Road near Ostrander.

Campers will watch for meteors during an evening that will include a campfire, a night hike and other activities. Telescopes will be provided for campers, who are expected to bring their own food, drinking water and other beverages and camping gear.

The Perseid Meteor Shower has been observed for at least 2,000 years. It peaks around Aug. 10 to 13. As a bonus this year, the moon will be near Saturn during the evening, offering a colorful start to the event.

Registration is required. Participants can register until Aug. 10, the day before the campout, but space is limited. To sign up or for more information, contact Saundra McBrearty at 740-524-8600, extension 6, or email her at saundras@preservationparks.com.
