Kilbourne's Fall Festival to be celebrated Oct. 5

Monday September 30, 2013 11:22 AM

The village of Kilbourne will host its 17th annual Kilbourne Community Fall Festival from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5. Admission and parking are free.

The event benefits Kilbourne's Good Samaritan Fund and celebrates the village's rural way of life. The Good Samaritan Fund is used to purchase school shoes and supplies for local students and to supplement utility, rent and medical expenses as well as buy gas cards for local residents of Brown, Kingston and Oxford Townships in Delaware County and Peru Township in Morrow County. Funds also support other local missions such as People In Need.

The festivities begin with a breakfast of pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits, juice and coffee and end with games, a petting zoo and raffle drawings. According to a news release, "The games are all kid-friendly with lots of winners."

A parade steps off at 11 a.m. with Dick and Dottie Dawson as the grand marshals. The Dawson family farm has been a prominent member of the Kilbourne area for many years.

The parade will include a covered wagon in celebration of Kingston Township and Heritage Day in Sunbury. People In Need will collect donations during the parade, and the collection will continue later at the Kilbourne United Methodist Church. Those who donate at least five non-perishable items to PIN that day will receive a "Forever Stamp" purchased and donated by Theresa Ferrell of the Kilbourne Post Office.

A lunch of hot roast pork sandwiches, walking tacos, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, beverages and several side dishes and desserts will be served. Other activities include an antique farm equipment and classic cars display; a horseshoe tournament with sign-ups at noon and the tournament at 1 p.m.; vendors selling homemade jams and jellies, bread, noodles, pumpkins and other foods as well as clothing, jewelry and pottery; a raffle; and several educational displays.

The storytelling corner will focus on the Kilbourne area; several local residents will share their family stories.

The Delaware County Bank will provide an ATM on-site. For more information about the horseshoe tournament, call C Dee's Li'l' Store at 740-524-3191. For general information about the event, call 740-524-6041 or email kumc1@frontier.com.
